George Berkeley (1685-1753) was an Irish philosopher who shocked his readers with the apparent paradoxical results of thoroughgoing phenomenalism. He had a significant impact on David Hume (1711-1776), who tried to get rid of those apparent paradoxical results without giving up on Berkeley’s thoroughgoing phenomenalism.
